Display Title Bent-wood cylinder box with head image in halo hairstyle
Descriptions
Object Description Tall lidded, cylindrical container of bent wood (bark) decoratively stitched along a vertical seam with 3 rows of cane or wood splints. The lid is carved dense hardwood with stylized human head form w/ broad hat, attached with nails to a bent-wood cap that fits over the container. Incised areas of the carved face show residual white paint in the interstices. The flared base is carved from the same hardwood, surfaces similarly and decoratively checkered, carved, incised. Carved wood and bark have been treated with a darker oil or stain rubbed into the surface.
