Display Title Deer kachina circular plaque of wood and cottonwood root
Descriptions
Object Description Circular wooden plaque of natural finish with black rim decorated with white dashes. Deer kachina head of cottonwood root is mounted at its center. Head is white with black horns, yellow and turquoise blossoms for ears outlined with red fabric, a red and black snout with teeth, and a green fabric ruff. Eyes are black rimmed in red while eyebrows are black rectangles. Wooden brim encircles head below horns, decorated on the top with turquoise zigzag line against white background and on the bottom by red, gold, and turquoise bands. Small feathers on rim and larger ones, including one yellow, behind horns. Metal hanging device on back of plaque, which is signed "Deer Kachina by Tsongomoki, Rd, Old Oraibi Village, Az Hopi Tribe."
