Object Description
Carroll Brown Mingo prepared these herring in Mashpee, which were then collected in May 1939 by Robert Kornfield, then an anthropology student at Harvard. At the time, Mingo noted that black walnut twigs were preferred for smoking because the flavor and color that they gave the fish.
