Indigenous Term "To Kpu Gli"
Object Description Small wooden mask. "To Kpu Gli." Goes to town. A white chicken given by each mother of boy in Poro, who says: "Mind my boy well." They kill and eat all but one selected one, called "Yumbo dic ts" -blood goes into chicken. This is to prevent excessive bleeding and death of initiates. Excessive bleeding would be caused by witchcraft. This is prevented by the chicken. Prayer: "Let the blood go into the chicken, not fall onto the ground." Medicine put on chicken. Killed and eaten at end of Poro."
