Object Description
Crescent shaped, 2 part tukula cosmetic box, with geometric designs incised on top. Hand written note, found in box: "Tukula cosmetic box from the village of Bulape in the Kasai River region of Belgian Congo. Tribe is Bakuba, also called Bushongo. Hook (found in box) is for hanging box from grass walls of hut. Tukula is a red colored tree whose wood is ground and mixed with water to make a red cosmetic used in ceremonies. Collected in 1951 by Joan and Eliot Elisofen" 11" deep. Hook is metal, bears same number.
