Object Description
Dagger with iron or steel single-edged blade lacking a central rib. Depicts killerwhale starnded on a rock while hunting. Strap is used to wrap around wrist. The three dimensional sculptured pommel of wood is in the form of a combined man's face twisted as if hit with a blow or suffering paralysis and a killer whale. A piece of wood decorates the guard area. Eyes, teeth, dorsal fin, flippers and tail are inlaid with iridescent blue-green abalone shell. The almost flat grip is wrapped with hide thong. A hide strap is entwined in the grip wrapping. The thong was wrapped around the wrist of the warrior to prevent the dagger's loss in battle. The sheath is made of rather thick hide.
