Object Description
This rare example of a twined beachgrass pack basket (wap'hán) made by Wampanoag weaver Bathsheba Occouch (1793-1853) from Aquinnah in the early nineteenth century. In 1931, Mary Vanderhoop, who was then in possession of the basket, noted that it represented the lost art of beachgrass weaving on Martha’s Vineyard.
