Object Description Bronze medal celebrating the centennial of the National Academy of Sciences, 1963; official seal surrounded by the words "National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. Founded 1863" on obverse; "National Academy of Sciences Centennial 1963" surrounded by laurel fronds on reverse. Housed in a flat gold foil-covered box; insert with medal reads: "A special medal carrying on its obverse face the official seal of the National Academy of Sciences was struck in recognition of the Centennial of the Academy's founding. The enclosed bronze copy has been authorized for distribution to our members and foreign associates and to the delegates of our sister institutions and those official guests who joined with us in celebration of this anniversary. Frederick Seitz, President"
