Object Description
/Gao Music goes into a trance during a ceremonial dance meant to cure sickness and drive away evil, 1953. He is held up by other medicine men who protect him from physical harm as his trance state deepens. The negative for this photograph seems to have been lost before the Marshall Family Photographic Collection arrived at the Peabody Museum; this image has been reproduced from a print and shows some spotting and tears (upper right corner) that occurred before the print came into the Peabody Museum’s archives.
