Object Description Written on board: "Huichol / Mexico / Jalisco / 40-88 / N30391 H8112"; Typed caption on mount: "This tiny thatched hut at Vallecita, in the Tuxpan section, is a type common / throughout the Huichol region. It is built on stilts as a precaution against / scorpions and serves as sleeping quarters and store-room for non-religious / articles. In the heat of the day members of the family often rest on the reed- / cane floor or on the ground in the shade of the hut. Personal belongings are / placed in woven bags or gourd bowls and hung from rafters. The crudely / made violin is of local manufacture; the strings are bought in Mexican towns / outside the region."
