Object Description
Leggings; short painted leggings.Constructed from a single piece of skin, each legging is folded in front to form a fringed panel, 13.4 cm l. Some quill binding on fringe. Panel and main section painted with stylized animal and human motifs.Except for slight variation in pigment, each piece is identical.Predominant color field is provided by natural buckskin surface, and green-blue pigment, outlined in brown.
Deerskin leggings to match apron were part of a chief's dancing regalia and worn around lower legs. Edged with fur. Fringes once wrapped at base with porcupine quills.
