Thirteen samples of the cane used in making Chitimacha baskets, showing the different steps taken in preparing the material to weave. First five stages show the splitting of the cane; Six shows preparation for dying. 7th (3 pieces) shows dyed cane; 8th is resplit (3 pieces), and final is trimmed for weaving.
