Written on board: "Aymara Indians / (Aymaran) / 2 / Ricardo Villaalba Fotografo / 10 photographs of Aymara Indians given to Mrs. Louis Agassiz in 1872. / From Mus. Comp. Zoology./ For description, see letter on back of this card." (verso) "Colored photos of / aymara Indians / Near La Paz / Memorandum for Mrs. Agassiz. / Early in the present year, 1872, the residents of La Paz, Bolivia, and especially those whose large and fertile haciendas in the neighboring province of Yungas, required frequent journeys between the city and the latter, were startled by rumors of frequent attacks made by a band of Indian assassins at Halancha, about half a day's journey from La Paz on the road to Yungas."
