Display Title Dance of the Santiagos
Descriptions
Object Description Written on board: Aztec Indians (Nahuatlan) / Tepesco. Jan. 18, '99. Dance of the Santiagos. The people were formed into a line for the photos to be taken, and the crowd and band hide the rest of the party. Only the chief dances in the middle, with Santiago's white horse fastened to his chest. The dance appears to represent the coming of [Cortés] or the fighting between him and [Narváez] & has much clashing of swords & excursions in pursuit. This old fellow was indefatigable & kept on with scarcely a pause for more than four hours. / Gift of Miss A. Breton. August 1899.
