Written on album page: "Fort Lamy from the Shari. Fort Lamy is the largest post of the French Sudan. It is essentially of military significance, in that it serves to protect the Sudan south of it from aggression by cutthroats from the Sahara, the edge of which is only a few miles north of Fort Lamy."
