Handwritten in pencil on paperboard (verso): L.K. Marshall / A !Kung girl. Around her neck is / a head band of ostrich egg shell beads / woven in a traditional pattern. The / head bands are sometimes worn around / the neck. The head band on the girl's / head is made of beads obtained in / trade. The design of the latter not the traditional / design of the head band around the / neck, was made by the Bushman / woman who made the head band. / Whatever influence design from / other peoples may have had upon the image, / we have not traced.
