Descriptions
Transcribed Annotations Written in pencil on photograph (verso): "Used in color in Vanishing Peoples of the Earth, National Geographic, 1968 / p. 60 / "Testing his sinew bowstring, a Bushman prepares for a hunt. With / poisoned arrows, he kills kudu, hartebeest, springbok, & other game / animals that range the Kalahari. The papae of certain beetles yield / the powerful poison; hunters crush the grubs & smear the juice on / their arrows directly behind the points. None of the deadly substance / goes on the sharp bone or metal heads - a single dro entering a man's / bloodstream through an accidental cut or scratch would kill him / within a day . . . ." / Credit: Laurence K.
