Object Description
Stem of a so-called "classic" calumet (McLaughlin 2002), or ceremonial peace pipe, with a round stem and two pendent eagle feather fans. The front fan, made of dark feathers and perhaps a later addition to the pipe, was painted red; the fan of light-colored feathers was painted orange. The stem, once painted blue-green, is decorated with both traditional materials (bird scalps, horsehair) and Western imports (silk and cotton). See conservation report for additional information.
