Descriptions
Object Description
Round, calumet-style stem lacking the pendent fan of a classic calumet (McLaughlin 2002). The body has been carved into a spiral in an S direction, while the shoulder has been carved down, leaving four intermittent burl-like "knobs" considerably wider than the stem proper. Three lengths of dyed-red deer hair are wrapped to the shoulder with silk ribbon, which also once covered the intervening spaces between the hair attachments. See conservation report for additional information.
