Object Description
Navy blue wool chief’s coat with beadwork and silk ribbon trim. Poison tag attached at lower back inside of the coat (Note: a second poison tag was removed due to method of attachment to lining fabric; held in Conservation). Catalogue number (50793) is penned in 2.5 cm high numerals with an underline and a green paint dot directly on the coat’s proper left front panel lining fabric. Prior exhibit display label: Micmac New Brunswick. Chief's Coat. ...Superb example of far Northeast beadwork and double curve designs (see adjoining group label) - White made coat beaded by Indian; Once owned by Frank Francis, Chief of nearby Malecite (Mal-e-seet) tribe, 50793 mid-1800s.
