Descriptions
Object Description
Remojadas ("laughing child") ceramic figurine, standing and holding a rattle. Front half is mold-made; garments (headdress, skirt, shirt) indicated by texturing and a coating of yellow-white slip or limewash. Back half hand-molded and featureless. Reconstructed. The hand-held rattle and the ear spools appear to be separate attachments cut-out, shaped and applied to the clay figure before firing.
Applied white pigment is evident only on the frontal surfaces, concentrated on the skirt or kilt, the chest and neck, and on the headdress. The eyes, mouth, hands and feet were also painted with this white wash. A darker pigment, partially obscured by dirt, is evident as horizontal stripes (4) at the outer edges of the skirt. The clay figure is hollow with holes under the feet and at the top corners of the headdress.
