Object Description
Brass figure, mother and child. These two figures were probably modeled in wax and cast together in a copper alloy (brass or bronze). The figure of the mother has raised facial features and an elaborate hair style. Raised hair or a headdress extends from the top of the head, down to the neck. Two braids, on either side of this center style, start at the back of the head and protrude forward. The figure's arms are held out slightly, the belly button is raised and the breasts are elongated (an indication of maturity). The figure appears to be nude, except for a short skirt. Coils of wax were probably rolled and then applied to the figure to create three necklaces, stripes on the skirt, knee and ankle bracelets. The figures hands and feet are over life-size.
