Object Description
Warp-faced plain weave sash, 1892, of single-ply z-spun indigo-dyed wool and red and green 3-ply s-spun wool. Weft appears to be brown. Five vertical bands. Center red band with blue and red warp float pattern of two undulating lines which form a diamond -within-diamond pattern. Inner diamonds are composed of stepped traingles. Outside edges are indigo blue and are separated from center band by green bands. Sides as woven. Warp ends twisted to create fringe. One fringe is much longer than the other. Length: 286 cm; Width: 8.9 cm; Depth: .2 cm. Thread count: Warp -- 17 ends/cm; Weft -- 5 ends/cm. Excellent condition.
