Object Description Written on board: "Arizona. White Dog Cave. / Prehistoric Indian Dogs. / Found buried with their masters in a sepulchral cave of the "Basket Makers," a primitive people who lived in the canyons of Northeaster Arizona a thousand years before Christ. These specimens are therefore over three thousand years old and, with the exception of a few skulls from shellheaps and village-sites, are the only known examples of the ancient indian dog. Their remarkable preservation is due to mummification in the dry sand of the cave. They prove that the indian dog was already separated into distinct breeds at a very early date.
