Object Description Written on board: "California, Chumash. / Baskets / Baskets given to the Peabody Museum by Miss Lucy Eaton - (See collections, Acc. #32-54.) / [verso] These baskets were collected by William Alden Gale, born January 31, 1790 - died Boston, April 15, 1941. Sailed as clerk on the "Albatross" from Boston to California in 1810. See Bancroft's History - Vol. XIV, pages 654 and 681 - list of foreigners in California - and Vols. XIV and XV, pages 93 and 94, (notes 27 and 29) 82, 474, 475, 476, 653. Pastoral, page 464- "Last trip on the "Roxana" in 1832, remaining on the coast as agent for Bryant and Stargis of Boston till 1835.""
