Object Description
Written on board: "Photograph by I. McGee Esq. / U.S. Geological Survey. / Shows Mr. Holmes of Bureau of Ethnology standing alongside gulley in which he discovered palaeolith. The implement was firmly imbedded in the Columbian Deposit, Mr. Holmes using a stick to dislodge it. Professor McGee having examined the spot pronounced the stone to lay "in undoubtedly undisturbed Columbian Deposits."
