Display Title Leather band with ties and beadwork designs on white background
Descriptions
Object Description Sioux, early 1900's. Beaded leather band with thong ties; was probably attached for decoration to a garment or blanket. The surface of the flexible leather is fully covered in lazy stitch beadwork techniques with glass seed beads, though there is a very narrow edge of leather visible. The background of the design is white and on one long edge of the band are spaced the bases of six triangles of the "tent" or "tipi" motif. These are in dark blue beads with the rectangular "door" in red outlined in white. The points of these triangles reach the opposite edge. Floating in the white field between these are 7 crosses with dimensions of 4 cm by 3.5 cm. These are identical, with narrow red arms (2 and 3 bead rows), accented by blue and white.
