Object Description
Wooden food dish; delicately carved and painted, possibly with native pigments. Low relief carving restricted to short ends. Long sides decorated with incised linear motifs at either end, leaving centers plain. Rim painted dull brick-red with opercula inlays.
Carved and painted at ends in red, black and blue.
This small "square bowl" of alder wood provides a good example of decorative detail. symmetrical faces characteristic of and designs of square bark. Still visible colors are probably native pigments suspended in egg tempera paint.
