Object Description
Large ladle, carved wood The object is a large spoon or ladle carved from a single piece of wood. It has a handle carved in the shape of a woman's head with elaborately styled hair. Double strands of wrapped plant fibers which terminate into braids decorate the elaborately carved hair. They are attached with small wooden nails. The head is also dressed with black, white and red colored beads. Incised lines and simple geometric shapes provide the ladle with texture. The surface of the object appears to have be coated with a black/brown material, possibly oils or pigments. White pigments highlight the eyes, forehead and mouth. The teeth are represented with six silver colored metal plates.
