Object Description
Bronze pack-bullock bell in mount of bamboo: This object was purchased between 1934 and 1935 in Cheiengmai, North Saim (west Lao) for the Peabody Museum by James M. Andrews. The object is a copper alloy pack-bullock bell suspended in a frame constructed of bamboo, wood, hide and plantfibers. The bell is rectangular in shape. It is 28 cm in height, 18.5 cm in width, 12 cm depth and is 1.0 - 1.1 cm thick. It is cast (sand ?), however the number of pieces are unknown. Joining edges and chaplets are not clearly visible. The shoulders of the bell are decorated with s-scrolls and a cross-hatched band 3 cm from the edge of the bottom. The wooden clapper is suspended in the interior of the bell with cordage made of plant fibers.
