Object Description
Wooden female figurine. The object is carved in the round from a single piece of wood. A deeply incised carved hairstyle covers much of the head. The striations and diamonds resemble a plaited hairstyle. Attached braided plant fibers (possibly palm leaf fibers) are incorporated into this design. Five braids extend from the nape forward to the front of the head. The center braid becomes a wrapped plait, hanging over the face down to the mouth. The pairs of braids on either side of the center braid are broken into smaller braids at the ends. Another braid crosses these ends to create two attached triangles. All braided plant fibers are attached to the head with nails made from an unknown metal material. The face has flat, incised eyes, with a raised nose and mouth.[see Object Description text entry for extended description]
