Bearded mask

Object Description
Wood face mask with tubular eyes, a long arched nose, flanges at the cheeks and an open mouth with white metal teeth. A strip of indigo dyed textile is attached to the top of the mask. The mouth is covered with strips of skin and iron nails. A 'beard' of plant fiber braids is attached to the bottom of the mask. The front of the mask is covered with a crumbly reddish brown encrustation and trimmed with white pigment.

Bearded mask (braided fiber) with tubular eyes, extended cheek flanges; wood. Metal teeth. Kaolin traces on protruding surfaces. Underside of chin covered witht anned animal skin, in brittle condition. (fastened with wooden pegs). Headband of (indigo?) dyed coarse cloth. 17 1/4"
