Object Description
Cult masks.
Painted wood mask with plant fibers.
The objects is a painted mask carved from a single piece of wood. The face is simply carved having a flat and oval shaped face with a large protruding nose and circular eyes. Three semi-circle panels sit on top of mask with twisted plant fibers decorating the two outer panels. The surface of the mask has been painted with panels of black, white and red/brown pigments.
Holes have been pierced at the sides and top of the mask.
Identifying numbers:
A Peabody Museum catalogue number has been applied between the eyes on the verso.
