Object Description
Wooden mask. Polychrome mask carved from a single piece of wood, possibly cedar. Surfaces are painted with red, green, and black pigments and coated with a varnish. The wood has been carved through as openings for the mouth,nose and eyes. Both of the eyes have been recessed on the back/interior side for two glass lens insets, one of which is lost. There are three holes bored adjacent to the back edge of both sides. There is another hole through the crown adjacent to the top edge. A screw-eye on the interior at the bridge of the nose, secures a loop of picture hanging wire and nylon mono-filament. May be the bear with the human face, Kaats. Used in a ceremony.
