Object Description
Soapstone carving of an man pulling a harpooned walrus ( or seal?). The man is seated with both feet braced against the back of the walrus and leaning backwards. There is a hide thong threaded through the drilled holes in both hands and tied to the top of a carved ivory harpoon. The harpoon fits into a drilled hole in the walrus' proper left front leg. No adhesive was used to secure the harpoon in place. The sculpture has a smooth, even surface from polishing and is saturated by an applied coating.
