Descriptions
Object Description Stone carving of an man pulling a walrus out of an ice hole. The man is seated with his legs braced against the hole and leaning backwards. He is pulling the walrus out by a rawhide thong that is wrapped around both hands and attached to the base of the walrus' chin. The scene portrays the walrus just coming out of the hole and its whiskers, tusks and nostrils are emerging. The tusks are carved from ivory and secured with an adhesive (probably hide glue). The object is carved from a dark grey soap stone and has a polished appearance.
