Descriptions
Object Description
Written on board: "Baskets / Collection of H.A. Deisher, Kutztown, Penn. Jan. 1908. / [verso] California Baskets
Made near New Jerusalem, but(?) in Berks Co. PA / "All made by Pennsylvania Germans. The high one with the cover has a record of at least 150 years and the long one with the cover standing upright is as old if not older. The high one is believed to have been used for a flour basket but the other one is a puzzle to me as I cannot find people from 70 to 90 years old who remember ever having seen such a basket or know of its use. The smaller ones are the old fashioned bread baskets used in baking. There is also one bee hive and I thought perhaps you would recognize the (?) from this particular specimen. The baskets are made of straw filling with hickory weaving(?)."
