Descriptions
Object Description Coiled basketry standing pig with four legs and protruding ears. Lid has looped handle. Made of bundle construction with bundles of bear grass, wefts of yucca, and designs of black martynia pod (Devil Claw?). Natural background with black eyes, curly tail, and three solid black rectangles- one on each side and on rear. Documents inside basket: (1) Sales tag: "HAND MADE BASKETS BY PAPAGO INDIANS OF ARIZONA. Papago Indian baskets are made all by hand from the Yucca plant. Devil Claw is used for the black design. A little red is sometimes used from the root of the Yucca (wild banana plant).
