Descriptions
Object Description
The animal depicted here is the pizhiw (lynx), part of the waabizheshi (marten) clan. Identified by its pointy ears, large claws and short tail, Densmore correctly calls it a wild cat, which she erroneously transcribes as “ma-ing-gans” (ma’iingan, wolf). Perhaps someone was playing a trick on her.. Collected by Frances Densmore. Part of David I Bushnell, Jr. collection. Written on verso: "Ma-ĭng'-gans. Wild cat"
