Object Description Historical archeology to explore the lives of people in the recent past in three cases: 19th c. California mining town, life of enslaved people at a Georgia plantation, surveying of construction areas in Boston. Film discusses the use of archeology to fill in the gaps of documented history. Footage of excavation and other background research in preparation. Interviews with researchers, discussions of historical archeology methodology. This part covers California dig, which explores way of life of coal miners in late 19th century, and begins to discuss Georgia dig. color, sound, 30 min.
