Object Description
Niman katsina helmet - this was worn in the presentation of the Niman Katsina in 1891, and represents the "corn in rows" Katsina. The mask is made of leather with a wooden tablita with a basketry visor and Eagle feathers attached. The tablita is in the shape of cloud with storm clouds (Not phallic) and rainbow symbols. On the mask are symbols of rainbows along the chin and three rain drops in pools of water down the center of the mask. The Eagle feathers on the mask represent clouds or flowers. The three rings in medial line of face an impression of a reed which grows near the water.
