Object Description
Written on board: "35-10 / Gansu / China / Card A / Arabic, not Chinese, is studied in the schools / See opposite side of card / Gift of Harrison Forman / The Explorers Club / New York City" Verso: "Moslems -- 10,000,000 of them in northwest / China. Turkish and Arabian tribes which mig- / rated to China more than a thousand years ago. / Note the carry-over of the veil. But being / practical the "veil" has an oval cut out for / the face. In speech and dress the men are / Chinese. Arabic and not Chinese is taught in / the schools. The white turban is the sign of / an AHUNG -- a Moslem priest. Even the young- / ster neophyte wears a white turban. / Chinese Moslems from Kansu / Most of these pictures were secured with the / Angular View Finder on the Leica camera -- / permitting pictures to be taken at right angles (continued under remarks)
