Object Description
Written on album page: "Pablo, the leading man of Pala, his wife, and home. / Pablo was in his field, a short distance from his house, and I went to speak with him, and finally asked whether he would like to have me take a picture of himself and his home - / - on which he shouted the question to his wife standing in front of their door. Instantly she / turned inside, and I supposed it only aonther case of Indian fear & unwillingness to have their picture / taken. He went within and ere long she appeared in her black waisst and white skirt, with / hair carefully smoothed, and he with vest and watch chain. By this time several others / came, including a haggard old woman with scant clothing."
