Display Title Twined globular basketry bowl, inscribed with "Merry Christmas"
Descriptions
Object Description Globular bowl in plain twining with supplementary pattern elements in "half twist overlay." Main motif consists of "Merry Christmas" in natural (tan) on a medium reddish brown background. Remainder of design consists of stripes, with additional colors including dark browns, medium brown, and (dyed) yellow. The edge finish is unusual, consisting of approximately three mm of bare warp elements surmounted by a thick weft element(s) wrapped with straw grass. Hazel warp and pine root weft with straw grass and fern stem designs.
