Carved wooden ancestor figure (kawe)
Tall wood figure carved in stylized likeness of woman with arms bent at elbows, hands held over abdomen. The figure has a pierced nose and open mouth. The brow and eyes are deeply cut. The sculpture is stylized and decoratively carved in low and high-relief, intricate in detail. The back is carefully carved in an organic design including a miniature anthropomorhic figure. Pigment use is minimal; muted red is applied to incised decoration; a dark gray is rubbed into the surface in isolated areas.
