Object Description
Carved wooden ancestor figure (kawe) 31" high
This narrow, thin male ancestor figure stands with his arms at his sides. The narrow oval head features a short hairstyle, a broad sharp nose, semicircular ears and a toothy open-mouthed smile. Chevron designs are carved in the arms and extend around the chest and shoulders. There is a circle carved on each hip and zig-zags down the outsides of the legs. Two groups of chevrons are carved in the P.R. buttock. The surface color of the wood seems to reflect natural use and aging.
