Display Title Warp-float garters: One pair, with zig-zap strip down the center
Descriptions
Object Description Wool garters from the early 1900's, in plain warp-faced weave and with warp-floating designs. They are in what Kate Peck Kent terms as Navajo style, that is, using a white weft element, in this case a very fine white cotton 3-ply z-spun s-twisted string. The warp is of this same white, plus red and purple wool, commercial aniline dyed s-spun single-ply yarn, the purple being quite faded and gone to a lavender-grey most places where it is visible. The belt has stripes of color running its length in warp-faced plain weave, from the outside in to the center stripe, red, purple, red. The center stripe is a warp-float design in red and white, a fine pattern of lace-like stripes and diagonal lines. The selvage is finished with two strands of the white string intertwined am[see Object Description text entry for extended description]
