Object Description
Warp-float belt from the 1930's-1950's in red, green, and white. This belt is in what Kate Peck Kent calls the Navajo style, using white weft cords of 4-ply z-spun, s-twist cotton, and warp cords in red and green acrylic and white cotton (same as the weft cord) The acrylic yarn is 3-ply commercial aniline dyed acrylic yarn, tightly spun. Most of belt is warp-faced plain weave, in stripes (from outer moving inward to central design stripe) red, green, red. In the center runs a stripe of warp-floated pattern in red and white, a repeating design of stepped triangle-forms and "V" shapes on a ground of weft-wise stripes. The edges are embellished with two strands of cord twined along the selvage, pink 2-ply on one side and white single-ply on the other.
