Object Description
Small woven panel in weft-faced plain weave with an embroidered geometric design of diamonds boxed in with another diamond with radiating lines (sun motif?). North American, probably, and probably of the late 20th century. Warp elements are white cotton cord, 4-ply z-spun s-twisted, about 3/cm. Weft is rough wool, possibly handspun, single-ply z-spun, in heathered red, white, black, mint green, and orange-red. Weft-wise stripes in these colors, some with simple patterning, mirror the central stripe of black. In the black stripe are three white and two red discontinuously brocaded geometric motifs, colors alternating. Two strands of white yarn are used in each element.
