Chimayo style runner in grey with red and turquoise geometric motif
Descriptions
Object Description
Chimayo style runner. Long, narrow weft-faced plain weave. Grey background with stripes on the ends and 2 mirror-image geometric motifs in red, turquoise, black and white. From Chimayo, New Mexico. Warp elements are of heathered pale blue wool, 2-ply z-spun s-twist, 4/cm. Weft is the same wool in heathered grey, white, turquoise, black, and red, and there are 10 rows of weft elements per cm. At each end of the textile is a pattern of stripes in all the colors. In the center, on either side of a double line of blue and white, is a symmetrical motif, basically diamond-formed, with jagged symmetrical edges. It is outlined in white, on a base of red. Inside the red is a pattern in blue and black.
100 cm long ( 107 with fringe), 51 cm wide, .2 cm deep.
Identification done in consultation with Suzanne Baizerman.
